We're also currently using a 3rd party control for this. We use the PrimeNG Timeline (https://primeng.org/timeline), which looks pretty similar to the MUI one.

Thanks for the request! We have recently been discussing plans to reimagine the existing stepper component(s), and being that they are somewhat related, a timeline component was also brought up to add to the library.
We don't currently have anything in the pipeline for this yet, but I'll get this item on our board so we can track it. I think it would be a great addition to the design system and component library!
